Frequently Asked Questions

What will my first session be like?

The first session will consist of reviewing the policies/procedures, informed consent, and collecting a detailed history of what is bringing you in for counseling. It's during this session that you and your therapist will discuss your therapy goals and go over recommendations for frequency of therapy visits and scheduling. If you have any questions for your therapist, this is a great time to ask those.

Do you take insurance?

At this time Redbird Counseling can accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) health insurance plans. It is always best for you to contact your insurance provider (via the customer support phone number on the back of your insurance card) to verify coverage before beginning services.

How much will my session cost?

The cost of your therapy session will depend on if you are using insurance or if you are paying privately.

- If you are using insurance the cost varies from plan to plan based on your benefits. It is always best for you to contact your insurance provider to verify services and determine if you have a deductible, coinsurance, or a copay.

- If you are paying private for your therapy sessions, fees range from $135-$160.

Who do you work with?

At this time, Redbird Counseling works with individuals 16 years and older dealing with a variety of mental health issues including but not limited to; depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, major life events, and more.

If you do not fall into these categories but feel that Redbird Counseling might still be a good fit for you, please reach out and set up a free initial consultation to discuss this further.

How long will I need to do therapy?

The amount of time an individual is in therapy largely depends on their presenting issue and the goals they set for themselves. There is no timeline for healing, so the length of time someone participates in therapy varies. Clients may terminate therapy services at any time, but it is best to schedule a termination appointment rather than just stopping appointments.

Where are you located?

Redbird Counseling is located at 614 Hawthorne St, Suite 3, Alexandria, MN 56308. There is street parking for clients along Hawthorne St. Redbird Counseling's office is labeled with a sign on the door.

What's your cancellation policy?

Redbird Counseling does require 24 hours advanced notice (however, the more the better) for appointment cancellations or rescheduling. There are many people in need of mental health services so timely cancellations allow for others in need to be able to get the support they are seeking.
